The collection contains a sketch, 1850 November 25, of a painting of the Battle of Monmouth, in the possession of George Washington Parke Custis. There are also letters 1859 December 14, & 1880 March 8, to Benson J. Lossing from Mary P.J. Cutts thanking him for his volume on Mount Vernon, and from J.Mc.W. Hollingsworth on misinformation in the book; and a sketch [n.d.] of Washington's tambour secretary willed to Rev. James Craik of Kentucky.

George Washington Parke Custis was the son of John Parke Custis who was the stepson of George Washington. Custis' mother was Eleanor Calvert.
